The University of Chicago invites applications for appointment as Instructional Professor (IP) at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full in the Department of Psychology (https://psychology.uchicago.edu/) and the College. This is a full-time, career-track teaching position. The initial appointment term is from three to five years depending on rank and will begin on or after July 1, 2025, and is renewable with opportunity for promotion within the Instructional Professor track based on performance review.
The successful candidate will annually teach 6 quarter-long undergraduate classes. Assignments may include intensive discussion courses in the Social Sciences Core curriculum, as well as introductory survey-level classes and upper-level electives in psychology. Although the area of expertise in psychology is open, we are particularly interested in candidates who are qualified to teach courses in the data analytic techniques and computational tools used in psychological research and who have experience using these methods to conduct psychological research. The IP will also participate in co-curricular and service activities that help support the teaching mission of the department, including occasional workshops and advising for students on the use of such tools in their own research projects. The position includes time and support for professional development.
This position will be part of the Service Employees International Union.
Review of applications will begin on October 14 2024 and will continue until the position is filled or the search is closed.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in psychological science or a related discipline focusing on research questions central to areas of psychology represented in our department; the degree must be in-hand prior to the start date. Teaching experience with undergraduate courses focusing on basic research questions in psychology is required. The candidate's record must demonstrate potential to design and teach courses to undergraduate students at a highly selective university.
Candidates should apply online at the University of Chicago’s Interfolio website at apply.interfolio.com/154007. Applications must include 1) a cover letter, 2) a current curriculum vitae, 3) a teaching statement, 4) syllabi for two proposed courses, 5) a writing sample that describes the candidate's research experience in a way that demonstrates their ability to communicate psychological research and support undergraduate research projects, and 6) three letters of reference.
